Ladakh Road trip, Moving towards Zoji La Pass on famous Srinagar-Leh Road from Sonamarg in Kashmir on 12 June 2015. Sind River flowing along with Srinagar – Leh Highway. Due to traffic limitation on Zojila Pass, we got a chance to behold the natural beauty and surroundings of Sonamarg region. Just after the Sonmarg, found various waterfalls coming down from nearby mountains due to snow melting, chilled and pristine water streams. We further moved towards Zojila Pass, on the right side of the highway, a road is going to Baltal Valley. Baltal is a camping ground for pilgrims, 15 km north of Sonamarg on the Sind River at the base of Zojila pass. This little valley is only a day’s journey away from and provides a shorter high-altitude alternate route to the sacred cave of Amarnath. View of Baltal region is Mesmerizing. Zoji La pass is located on the Indian National Highway 1 between Srinagar and Leh, in the western section of the Himalayan mountain ranges. Around 3528 m (11, 649 ft) above the sea level, the pass is 9 kms from Sonamarg and is an important link between Ladakh and Kashmir. This pass is considered to be the second highest pass after Fotu La on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. Roadtrip from Drass to Kargil (Srinagar to Leh then Leh to Manali Roadtrip), after visiting War Memotial in Drass, started journey towards Kargil on famous Srinagar – Leh Highway 1D. Passing between mountains both the side as well as Drass River flowing along with the road. Later on Drass river merge with Shingo river before Kargil.

Dras is a town in the Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir, India on National Highway 1D. It is often called ‘The Gateway to Ladakh’. Drass is also claimed the coldest inhabited place in India.

Kargil is the second largest town in Ladakh after Leh.

Lamayuru or Yuru Monastery (3610 meters) is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Lamayouro village in Leh district, India. It is situated on the Srinagar-Leh highway 15 kilometres east of the Fotu La.

During road trip to Ladakh, on Srinagar – Leh Highways after crossing Lamayuru Monastery (also Moonland near Lamayuru Monastery) and moving towards to Leh, we encountered the one of the most dangerous road (Zojila Pass is also very risky section on Srinagar – Leh Highway), section of few kilometers on Leh – Srinagar Highway is having very high risk of landslide (landslide zone). We found lot of stones and scrap on the road due to landslide through out the landslide zone. Thanks to BRO to put remarkable efforts to ensure safety of vehicle passing through this zone. Road to Leh (on Srinagar – Leh Highway), Driving from Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers to Magnetic Hill then Gurudwara Pathar Sahib during Leh – Ladakh Trip.

Confluence of river Zanskar and Indus is considered as one of the most beautiful view on route to Leh from Nimo (Nimu or Nimmo) village on Kargil – Leh highway.

Magnet Hill is a “gravity hill” located near Leh in Ladakh, India. The layout of the area and surrounding slopes creates an optical illusion that the downhill road is actually an uphill road. Objects and cars on the hill may appear to roll “uphill” in defiance of gravity when they are, in fact, rolling downhill.

This road is called highest motorable road in the world During Ladakh trip, we faced heavy snowfall on Khardungla Pass Road (claimed highest motorable road in world) in June 2015. In few minutes there was inches of snow on the road, we were riding with Royale Enfield towards Khardung La, but we were stopped at Pullu by BRO, BRO stopped all two wheeler, they were allowing only four wheeler, enjoyed snowfall at Pullu and came back to Leh.
   
The Chang La (el. 5,360 m or 17,590 ft) is a high mountain pass in Ladakh, India. It is claimed to be the second highest motorable road in the world (which is either Merisimik La or Mana pass). Chang La is approached from Leh via Kharu and Sekti village by an asphalt road. The climb is very steep and requires a careful drive.During the summer months specifically the tourist season, small streams appear across the road, making the climb a challenge for the bikers. The descent from Chang La towards Tangtse or Darbuk is again very steep. As per the medics, it is advisable to not stay at the top for more than 20-25 mins as it could be detrimental to health owing to its high altitude. The Chang La is on the route to Pangong Lake from Leh During Leh to Pangong Lake road trip, while crossing Chang La Pass, we faced traffic jam due to Heavy Snowfall. There was heavy snowfall in last night but BRO put their full efforts to clear the roads, we were facing snowfall during the trip, that causes vehicles get stuck in snow frequently.

YES, it was snowfall in June… snow all around, we enjoyed Winter in June, it was heavy snowfall last night also during our drive, vehicles getting stuck in snow, due to continuous snowfall and skidding issue, we have to tie Iron Chain around the Car Tyre.

Bikers were struggling due to thick layer of snow on the road.

Changla Pass is a High Altitude Pass in Ladakh region in India. Elevation of Chang La pass is 5,360 m or 17,590 ft, It is claimed to be the second highest motorable road in the world. Chang La Pass connect Leh to famous Pangong Lake (Pangong Tso), Pangong Lake is high altitude lake in Himalaya.

Drive to Changla Pass (High Altitude Pass in Ladakh) by Car in Snowfall. During road trip to Pangong Lake (Pangong Tso) from Leh, one need to cross Changla Pass (Elevation of Chang La pass is 5,360 m or 17,590 ft, It is claimed to be the second highest motorable road in the world).
Due to Snowfall, a thick layer of snow was on the road and surroundings. Vehicles specially Bikers were struggling due to snow on the road, extreme weather conditions, bad roads and AMS problem but the Mesmerizing Beauty of Changla makes this place photographer’s delight. Scary roads and never before experience makes Ladakh, Adventurer’s Paradise. One of the most memorable drive from leh to changla and further till Pangong Lake.

Pangong Tso, “high grassland lake”, also referred to as Pangong Lake, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m. It is 134 km long and extends from India to China.
